GRAD 2010 | POWELL RIVER GRADUATION PHOTOGRAPHY

Graduation. Stepping out on your own. Moving on. Maturing.

I've been there (ah, now, that I think about it, it's almost been ten years!). Something about graduation photos (you know, the traditional kind with the cap-and-gown) seem so stagnant. Boring almost. Especially for such a turning-point in a young life.

I'm trying to shake that convention: lose the cap-and-gown. I'm inviting everyone to rock the dress. Rock the tux. You know... just be themselves.

I'm also having a portrait sale for grads from now until June 18th. Email jennifer [at] kennedycorp [dot] ca for booking information and details.

Let me introduce some of the most beautiful grads, ever... Sarah, Marissa and Rachel. Gorgeous, no?

BABY CASH | POWELL RIVER FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

What a treat for me.  Between crazed weekend weddings, I get the opportunity to meet this gorgeous new family.  Baby Cash and his entourage (mom and dad) were so gracious, relaxed, happy.  There is something so magical about first babies. Here are some of my favourites from their session.

And what's a baby sesh without an outtake?  This face had me giggling for hours...

ALICIA AND RYAN | POWELL RIVER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

My first wedding of the year.  I'm always so excited in May when I get to kick off the wedding season.  I'm always chock-full of fresh ideas, new locations, new poses.  I'm also nervous.  I mean, I haven't done a all-day wedding since November last year...

Enter Alicia.  Not just a bride.  A photographer, too.

Alicia is amazing.  Like most photographers, details are not lost on her (which is very evident!).  Every aspect of her day was beautiful, bright and happy.  The details were amazing and her colour palette, inspiring.  Their date, Friday, May the fourteenth, had special meaning to the family: it was Alicia's grandparents' anniversary.  What a beautiful way to honour their memory.

Let's get on to the photos, shall we?

Like I said... amazing details.  Stellar shoes, handmade garter, her Mother's wedding brooch (on bouquet), the invitation with Ryan's watercolour.

Alicia was one of the calmest brides, ever.  Relaxed and happy.

Down the aisle at the historic Patricia Theatre.

Yay for the new Mr. and Mrs.!

And the bridal party brought the awesome.

Only absolutely brilliant sunshine and the bluest of skies give you images like that.

Alicia, you are beautiful.

The bling.

And, a little bubbly for the ride back to the reception...

Her sister, Sara, gave the most heart-warming speech about things Alicia had taught her.

And more amazing details: a candy table, homemade wedding cakes, wishing boards, and Alicia even set up a photobooth at her own reception!

Alicia, thank you so much for the honour of photographing your day - really, when another photographer ask you to do this - it's incredible.  I wish you and Ryan the best in love and life.  Enjoy your honeymoon!

SALTWATER BRIDALS | POWELL RIVER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

I'm lucky to have the friends that I have.  You know, ones that are willing to put on their wedding dress two-and-a-half years after they said "I do" without reservation.  This is something that Jocelyn and I had talked about for a long time, and finally made plans to make it happen... I was under a time crunch for a very exciting new project and these images fit the bill.

These were taken at the very beautiful and serene Saltery Bay Park, in beautiful Powell River, BC.  It's worth the drive.  Very often, images like this don't happen on a wedding day.  But, that's what day-after sessions are for.  We can wait for the light to be just right and relax and create some truly amazing portraits.  Plus, you get to wear the dress again.

ALI AND ROB | FLAUNT YOUR ROCK, POWELL RIVER ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

How on earth to I end up photographing such beautiful people?

Ali and Rob were kind enough to take part in my Flaunt Your Rock contest earlier this year, and even though they were runners-up... they put up a good fight and I just couldn't say no to an e-sesh with them.

They've been friends since high school, never letting their friendship cross "that line". Three years later ago, that all changed, and now... their wedding day is less than a month away. I couldn't help but be instantly energized and uplifted at their joie de vivre and their beautiful connection.

Onto the pictures, already!

Ali and Rob - I wish you both the best for your wedding day and beyond.  Thank you so much for braving the near rain conditions and bearing with my insane antics during your shoot.  Enjoy.  Your $50 gift certificate will be in your inbox shortly!

Now everyone, leave some love in the form of comments below!
